does anyone know anything about an Ibach piano made in Germany?
I am in the process of restoring an old Ibach Pianola-Piano which was a player piano until some people years ago decided to rip out all the machine parts which made it a player piano.
The damper heads are so old that all the bass strings ring out no matter what key you hit. i suppose my best bet is to replace to felt on the damper heads?
I would appreciate any info that someone can give me about this piano. The serial number is 66487
Thanks!
Ibach is a top flight piano. I was unaware that they made any player pianos, and think it would be hard to find the pneumatics to restore that portion of the instrument. Damper (and hammer) felts are easy to replace, good luck with regulation and all the other parts that will need attention. If you care about the instrument have a piano rebuilder restore the action. I think you’re going to need flange bushings, balance rail and front rail punchings and back checks as well if the dampers are in such bad condition. You need specialized tools for rebushing the flanges and for all the regulation work. For the home hobbyist it might be « fun » for the first five or six repetitions you do, but most give up after an octave or two.
At minimum, I’ll direct you to Arthur Reblitz book: Piano Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding (2nd ed.)
