what is a vintage piano easy 10 points?
i want to know what a vintage piano is.
Last year we took a sledge hammer to 125 vintage pianos. We salvaged what we could from them. We received $800 for recycling the cast iron plates, We kept the keys if they had ivory, kept the pedals, hinges, screw and casters. The rest went into the dumpster.
The use of words like vintage or antique sound better than « old » and does not necessarily refer to a quality piano. There are well over 12,000 names of pianos and out of that 12,000 pianos there are maybe only 10 good pianos, all the rest are just pianos, nothing special, some are better than others, but just pianos.
Pianos are not like antique furniture. Antique furniture tends to command a higher price if it is left untouched. Pianos are just the opposite, they do not achieve their full value until they are fully restored. They are a musical instrument first and an antique second.
With most old pianos the cost to restore them will far exceed their value when finished. This is especially true with upright pianos. So there is not a lot of incentive to rebuild uprights unless one has sentimental feelings for the piano.
