How to play maj/min chords on piano?
so we’re trying to translate our knowledge of guitar to keyboards/piano and am able to figure out the notes in a progression, but how do you play a major chord and how to play a minor chord?
it is the same as guitar right? like forming triads from the major scale?
ex. to play a Cmaj, you’d play C, E, and G right? for both keys and guitar.
so to play a minor you would flatten the third and play a D# rather than E?
the minor chords just don’t sound right when played on the keyboard with this logic, is this right or am I missing something?
Yes, the major and minor chords are formed from triads built on the scale degrees regardless of the instrument you are playing. Your example of C, E, and G is a major triad. To form a c minor triad you would play C, Eb, and G. I don’t see that you are missing anything except that you would use the enharmonic equivalent of Eb for the minor triad instead of D# when notating the chord. I don’t know why your minor chords sound wrong unless you are hitting the wrong keys. I hope this answers your question.
