Liszt 11th Transcendental Etude in D Flat Major?
People say that the original, 1837, Grande Etude version of the 11th etude in D Flat major was so virtuoso and difficult that it was virtually « unplayable » I read on http://www.amazon.com/Liszt-Piano-Concertos-Franz/dp/B00005Y33B

However, Today I heard one guy playing the original 1837 version of the 11th etude with little or no difficulty (listen to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4x39a-zXuE,) even though it is judged by many to be one of the most difficult pieces ever composed for the piano.
Question
What actually makes this etude sooo difficult? Listening to the 1837 grand etude, I did not pick up on to much technical difficulty in it

While the original 1826 version reflected a youngster’s ambition to complete 48 exercises in each tonality and modality, like his maestro Czerny, and a romantic, free-of-charge frenzy of bravado, the 1837 edition of the Douze Grand Etudes was thoughtfully tough: difficulties were skilfully disseminated to select potential executers and virtuoso talents. The n.11 (Evening Harmonies) is maliciously slow and meditative in the beginning (I am listening to it right now), but then the long arpeggios, endlessly repeated, the parallel octaves and the strong, wrist-tiring chords in the central section must be a real challenge.
Let’s consider that L. was really after new expressive possibilities on the piano, and technical improvements of the instrument were released in those years. So, ‘Vision’ (n.6 in G major) has a whole section exploiting deep left side of the keyboard; ‘Wilde Jagd’ (Wild Hunt, no. 8 in C minor) has weird rhythmical passages; ‘Chasse-neige’ (Snow whirls, no. 12 in B flat minor) has that particular tremolo.
Bewilderment, magic and emotion should go hand in hand in the world of an ‘integral romantic’ like Liszt.
