Is a dog not wanting to walk a sign of labor?
I posted a question last week about how I aquired a pregnant dog. She is around 9 weeks right now. My batteries are out on my thermometer and her vet appointment isn’t until 3 today so I’m looking for a couple of answers because I’m a little concerened. All last night and today my dog has barely been wanting to get up. She’ll walk a little and then sit down and then lay. She ate some chicken this morning and I had her drink some chicken broth but she doesn’t seem to really want to get up. The only time she really got up on her own account is when she thought I was leaving and she hauled @ss to the door. She’s not panting or anything like that. Could she possibly be going into labor without the panting?
We just went for a walk. She’s okay.
I didn’t see your past question, but you should probably get on the phone with your breeding mentor and double check that you have everything for the labour and whelping – like checking your batteries and the stability of the whelping box, etc.
I would not be giving chicken broth, unless you made it yourself and know it doesn’t contain onions or salt. Most stocks contain both.
It’s possible that she’s in pre-labour, but it’s also possible that she’s in distress and is having problems. I would think that a phone call to the vet would be in order.
