question for help with an electrical project?

I am helping my son build one of the « most useless machines » and I am looking for a switch to operate the device. the device has a servo and I need a two direction toggle switch that will activate the servo in one direction in the first position and reverse direction in the second position. I think but not sure on the switch. I think I am looking for a SPDT switch that is if its a matter of a common and the other two are the hot for either direction if that is how they work. if someone could give me a hand with this switch selection I would be greatfull

You can reverse the polarity of a two-wire circuit by using a DPDT switch with each outside terminal crossed to the diagonally opposite one. Doesn’t matter whether the supply or the load uses the center terminals.

If you have a three wire circuit where you’re switching a load between two different supply wires (and using a common ground) then you need an SPDT switch, with the load connected to the center terminal. If you also have two separate return lines (grounds) then use a DPDT, again with the load connected to the center terminals.
