Why is the jazz part in Linus and Lucy excluded in the « A Charlie Brown Christmas » piano solo book?
I ordered this book because it was $10 more than just the sheet music for Linus and Lucy and includes 9 other songs, but when I opened it and looked at the Linus and Lucy music, I noticed it was missing an entire part of the song, the first of the two jazz / swing solos. What gives? I don’t want to waste another $5 just to get this part, and risk the sheet music excluding it as well.
Those parts would be too difficult for most people buying that book to play. Someone who can play that way doesn’t need the music. Not trying to be facetious – it’s true. If you have the skill and harmonic vocabulary to play that section, you already can play most things of that level of difficulty just by listening to them. It’s a skill that most pro musicians have.
That said, I have found that more and more transcription books are coming out these days. Back when I was coming up, you just couldn’t buy note-for-note transcriptions of anybody anywhere. You had to laboriously learn the solo yourself by listening to the record. These days, Hal Leonard has a lot of rock books that provide note-for-note correct transcriptions, so they may have some jazz books too. You might look in their catalog for a Vince Guraldi (sp?) transcription book.
