What would I need to buy for a starter painting/drawing kit?
My boyfriend likes to draw and I have seen a few little paintings which he has made.
For Christmas, I figure that he would like to have some more professional tools to work with. He is Moari so he works a lot on tribal art so I was going to buy a good set of pencils, charcoals and a sketch pad. The paintings that he made looked to me that they were made with acrylic paints so I was thinking of buying him a set of assorted acrylic colours and a good paintbrush set, as well as some assorted cavas sizes to work with.
What else might be a necessary or a good touch to what I already planned on purchasing? Any recommendations on brands to buy? Where is an inexpensive place to purchase these things from? Any other tips?
Also, do you think that this would be a good gift?
The only thing I would absolutely add to your list would be a couple of sketchpads of various sizes. Rough sketches are an important part of a professional’s process from conception to a final image. Newsprit sketch pads are inexpensive and come in many sizes.
If you want to introduce him to a different media for him to start, I suggest, perhaps a set of marker pens.
Before you go out and buy any acrylic paints, be absolutely sure that he IS using acrylics. He won’t be able to mix oils and acrylics
