Mac users: How easy to use is the Garage Band application in the iLife software?

I have a musical background, played piano for 10 years… would really like to find an easy interface to record and toggle with my songs.
Can you plug a microphone into a macbook and use it in garage band?

Garage Band is pretty simple, but it has less to do with knowing about how to play music than how to record it. That said, it’s probably one of the easiest-to-use recording programs I have worked with, and I have worked with quite a few. I would bet if you gave it a try you would figure it out pretty quickly.

Yes, you can get a mic that will work with a MacBook and record into GarageBand that way. If your MacBook has a Mic/Line in jack, that will work, if not, you can get a pretty inexpensive USB mic interface that will do the trick.
