when you have already thought of a melody,how do you translate that tune to guitar/piano chords?
If you can figure out what key your tune is in, that will tell you some of the chords right away, as most of the chords will be based on the notes in the scale of that key. For example, if you are in the key of F, the chords you will be using will come from F major, G minor, A minor B flat major, C dominant, D minor, E half diminished. Not all of them and not in that order of course. More likely in an order like G minor, C dominant, then resolving to F major. Other chords might be used if some of the notes in your tune fall out of the scale. And if your tune changes keys, you will change to a whole different set of chords. Your melody note is commonly the third or the fifth of the chord you are playing underneath it.
