What do I need to do to get started as a piano composer and performer?

I play the piano and have written some songs. I’ve had several people look at them and have been advised to get them copyrighted. I’ve looked at BMI but I don’t really know what to do. I want to get my sheet music published and if it’s good enough get out there and play for people. When I was young I had an agent for modeling magazines and things like that. Do I need to get an agent in music? and if so how do I go about doing that? And how do I get published? Also, I live in Atlanta so if you know of any agencies or places I can go for help with this that would be greatly appreciated.

hey dude. in fact, u dont need to go to publishers as such. really good publishing houses prefer to deal with already renowned composers, i mean musicians who already have a name. plus, the percent u get from them is miserable.
it’s much easier and effective to try self-publishing. there are a couple of platforms for that, but ive tried this one http://www.load.cd/services/publish_sheet_music.html
free registration, no charge for anything. u get your personal page and upload your sheet music in any format you prefer. and then its easy, they do the job for you, sell and promote your stuff and charge some comission for every item,
