An LP turntable must spin at 3.54 rad/s to play a record. How much torque must the motor deliver if the turntable is to reach its final angular speed in 1.9 revolutions, starting from rest? The turntable is a uniform disk of diameter 31.0 cm and mass 0.27 kg. (Nm)
I did a bunch of work for this one, but I’m pretty sure its wrong. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this the correct way, because I’m pretty confused. Thanks!
find the center of rotaial mass ie the amount of mass and the distance from rotation center
you will have 2 formulas
1. distance the mass center travels in 1.9 revs
so (d) is equal to 1.9 rev * 2pi* radius of mass center
then note the distance formula for constant acceleration
with time as variable
d= a(t^2)
or
t=sqrt(d/a)
and the velocity is equal to 3.54 * mass center distance from center /sec
and velocity formula is v= 2a(t)
or
t=v/(2a)
so combine both removing the t variable
ie
v/(2a)=sqrt(d/a)
solve for a
then use f=ma
m is mass of the mass center
a is from above
answer (f) is force in newtons if distance is in meters
torque is that force in newtons divided by distance mass center is from center
