Is well-tempering still an isssue in music. How does it effect the modern piano?

Temperament is a very big issue with piano still, and one of the things that makes a piano tuner’s job so difficult – some pianos being more temperamental than others 
However, now most piano tuning is based on equal temperament instead of well temperament. Actually, pianos are usually tuned at ratios slightly greater than 2:1 at the octave. This is a complex topic involving something called inharmonicity and is a property of the piano strings that makes their overtones slightly sharper than whole number ratios (real piano strings are not perfect oscillators, after all). These are realities of such complex instruments, and as a result the higher octaves are slightly sharper than the lower octaves – even though most people can’t hear the difference. Everything in temperament is a trade-off, trying to strike a balance between good-sounding consonance when modulating, staying in tune with other ensemble instruments using different temperaments, etc.
