Is it hard to get accepted in a good piano school in Europe?
I’m thinking Paris Conservatory or Somewhere in switzerland? Advices would be great
In a word: Yes
I’m not entirely sure how Switzerland crept in on the crest of a wave — and no offense remotely to the Swiss — far from it — it’s just not a more obvious port of call in this context — but if you read the requirements for Julliard and their admissions process, our ‘big’ conservatories approach admissions in a very similar vein. Perhaps a little more laissez faire in attitude — less overtly busy with ‘being Julliard’ as ‘t were — but the bottom line is no different. And no more forgiving.
And don’t think that with the entrance requirements passed, your problems will be over. Of my year (1971) some 300 tried to get into the soloist’s training for my instrument, 100-odd did, and I think 9 of us met after 7 years to finally settle things for the graduating Gold Medal. And, inevitably, just one of us got that one…
