Music Clavier Piano Jazz
Intermediate Piano Sheet Music/Scores For An Aspiring Conductor?

I am a music major studying classical piano/composition. My musical background has been based on Jazz Music, but Ive always been hybrid when composing pieces for piano, and more directed towards writing classical music when actually setting out to notate it.

Because I have been studying Jazz music I there wasn’t much of a requirement to actually study or sight read the music I was playing. Since I have been studying thus far I have been taking a general piano class, but because already playing piano for years I’ve surpassed the standard curriculum at my college. I’m looking for new classical music to read and play. I’ve done pieces like Bach’s Clavier, and one of Schubert’s impromptus.

Im just looking for suggestion on where to go next.

as far as it goes for your piano technique . . . don’t stop with the schubert. He’s got some really awesome piano tunes!!!!! The songs without words collection is just beautiful IMHO. and the other answerer was correct with Chopin. . . learn his tunes . . . . Then Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Bartok . . . oh my the list goes on.

However, you’re stating that you wish to be a conductor. Why aren’t you at least checking out piano reductions of orchestral pieces? I think that would help you get a better feel for the work. There’s a point between when you decide that your career goal must take precedence over your piano prowess . . .

I’m not berating you, or belittling you for that matter – I’m just asking why you can’t kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak! A piano reduction of an orchestral score usually isn’t in the « EZ Piano » category ;-) AND expose you to works that you might actually like to conduct. . . .
