To classical music maniacs: what other types of music do you listen to?
Specifically?
Mine: the band Radiohead- extremely sophisticated music with various piano transcriptions by classical pianists
Pink Floyd-just good music, often sophisticated with capable guest soloists
Eminem-deep poetry, that’s all, no need to snap, ‘Oh my God! He just named a rap musician’ It’s good poetry. Suck it up.
Bill Evans, George Shearing, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and other jazz musicians.

One of my fav Radiohead works.
Well, Baroque music is my #1 favourite, and Renaissance and Mediaeval tie for second place.
When I’m in a non-Classical mood, I listen to folk music – I especially love Irish, Scottish and Baltic folk, and enjoy Indian, Mongolian, Macedonian and Scandinavian (esp. Norwegian Hardanger fiddle) to name but a few.
I’m mad about bagpipes, bladder pipes, shawms and reed pipes – indeed, any folk instrument that makes rich, f@rty sounds! I play the rohrpill – reed pipe – in an Estonian folk group, and I’m hoping one of the spunky Estonian men in the band will teach me bagpipes one day…
I love heavy metal and hard rock – especially the 70s bands – have done since I was 13. I still have all my old vinyls – Metallica, ACDC, Deep Purple, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin…good angsty stuff.
I also love Bluegrass music – especially the banjo. Dang, I wish I could learn it…I’d love to finger-pick like Earl Scruggs!
Hmmm – a bit of a weird musical patchwork here, but – oh well, it makes life colourful…
