Is it okay for the fingers to bend inwardly a little when playing the piano?
I play the piano and I was told to make the fingers always curve which I have always done. But my fingers are collapsing or bending inward when pressing the keys. Is it okay?? I saw that some professional pianists did also have collapsing fingers when I analyzed some videos carefully. Especially the 4th fingers are so weak.. And by the way how can I strenghten my fingers?
The problem lies embedded in your question: what do you mean by ‘fingers’ being bent’? Mamianka has already given you the bald thrust. If the knuckle joints are ‘collapsing’ or ‘bent inward’ it spells trouble. You need a professional teacher to observe what your are doing and correct you ‘hands on’ over a protracted period of time to make improvements in that respect. Strengthening the fingers is a matter of repeated, well thought out work over time, a LONG time: there is no quick fix.
