How much should I sell this used piano for?
It’s a Ludwig & Co. grand piano, and as far as the year I’m not sure. There is a sticker on the inside that says « Paris 1900 Buffalo 1901″ It needs some cosmetic tlc as it has some scratches and scuffs. Sounds good, needs some tuning though. It’s taking up space in my house and just would like an opinion on how much to sell it for.
Sorry, you do not have a gold mine. Ludwig pianos are not considered one of the great pianos. It is a piano that was built for a budget and for the average home player. They do not have a particularly warm sound. The only way to date the piano is with the serial number which should be a 5 or 6 digit number. This is not a piano name that people will actively seek out.
Since you have not given the size of the grand, I will assume it is between 5′ and 6′. If it has not been restored, all the keys play, and holds a tuning $200 to $800. If it were completely restored to a like new condition $4000 to $6000.
Remember, there is no real blue book on used pianos. The prices boil down to what you will take for the piano and what the buyer is willing to pay.
According to the Pierce Piano Atlas the name was discontinued in 1953.
