How to improvize in music: chords and what not?
I don’t understand chords.
It says for example B flat 7 or F 9…what do the numbers refer to? I understand B Flat and F are the scales (minor or major??)
And what are minor scales? I know majors…
Thank you but is the root just the note it says?
So if it says B flat…root = B flat?
The root is the first note and then the number indicates the note added at the end. A 7 chord is a chord with the last note being a 7th from the root, meaning one below an octave. For example, if the root was a C the 7th would be a Bb, as a seventh is minor. You may be confused, sorry!
The different scales depend on different steps. You know that a C to a D is a whole step but a C to a Db is a half step.
Major goes whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half.
Minor is whole, half, whole, whole, half, whole, whole
