What, in your opinion, is the best recording of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5?
My mother recently discovered Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (Bless her), and now adores it! I have a recording of Gerhard Oppitz performing it with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra on my laptop – don’t know how or where I found it, but I love it. The thing is, I wanted to buy it for her on CD so that she could listen to it whenever she didn’t have access to my laptop.
I was wondering if any of you had a favourite recording of it? I was thinking maybe Horowitz…?
To be honest I’m still searching for my definitive « Emperor »
but in the meantime I would not choose Horowitz.
I would gravitate towards either Wilhelm Kempff (on the Deutsche Grammophon label)
or Clifford Curzon (on Decca) if I absolutely had to recommend one.
