What are your best recipes for a moist and yet easy to make sheet cake? Needing to make one for a bbq. Thanks?
Southern Sheet Cake
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick margarine
1/2 cup shortening
3 Tablespoons cocoa
1 cup water
2 eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon soda
In a bowl mix flour, salt and sugar, set aside
In a sauce pan melt margarine and shortening together
Add cocoa and water to margarine mixture and bring to a boil
Pour over flour mixture and mix well
Beat eggs and add to mixture
then add soda to the buttermilk, stir and add to mixture
Bake cake in a greased and floured jelly roll pan for 20 min at 350 degrees
For the icing melt one stick of margarine
add 3 tablespoons of cocoa and 6 tablespoons of
evaporated milk, a 16 oz box of powdered sugar, one teaspoon of vanilla and 1 cup of walnuts or pecans. Spread on cake while warm.
