How can I clean my sticky leatherman knife/tool?
My roommate used the knife on my leatherman tool to cut fruit and stuff and now the hinges are all sticky and it’s hard to flip out the tools. There’s some kind of mixture of fruit juices and possibly alcohol/soda in there.
Is there something I can soak it in to clean out the goop without hurting the stainless steel?

Open out all the tools so that you can get HOT water on all sides of all the parts, then place in your kitchen sink. Boil a pan of water on the stove, then CAREFULLY pour the boiling water OVER your Leatherman in the kitchen sink. After pouring the boiling water over your tool, brush it with a cheap toothbrush to remove any bits of pulp still sitting on the tool. Run cool water over your pocket tool, then place on a metal pan and place in a 225 degree oven to dry. (Should be dry in about 15 minutes.) Remove, allow to cool enough that you can handle it barehanded, then liberally coat with WD40, allow to sit a few minutes to permit WD40 to get into joints and hinges, then wipe off excess with a soft cloth.
Finally, teach your roommate what a paring knife is and how to use one (including the proper method of washing the paring knife when done).
