Can you recommend a piano music book for primary school pupils or do you know one called Okitokiunga?
I’m a teacher and want to find a piano music book that I remember from when I was at school. I think it was called Okitokiunga. Any ideas about this or where I might get hold of a copy? I think it has ‘Autumn Days’ and ‘Colours of Day’ in it. Or can you recommend one for primary school aged pupils please? Thank you.
I haven’t heard of Okitokiunga, sorry – but I could recommend a brilliant book called Jibbidy F and A-C-E. My piano teacher learned from it when she was a child, and each one of her students in turn. The book’s really good because it starts you with both hands together, and eliminating the risk that the right hand will end up much stronger than the left, or vica versa. Starting with hands together makes so much more sense, and it wasn’t actually that difficult. (I started learning when I was nine or ten.) The follow-up book is called Sugar and Spice. They’re lovely books and they’re really good for training both of the hands equally and together. The tunes are also quite pretty, and two of the lines and spaces mnenomics are given to the two main characters, Jibbidy F (GBDF) and A-C-E, which always helped me to remember them.
