How good are the Alfred’s Piano tutorial book and CD series?
I heard these books teach you chords and not individual notes and that can be a bad thing? How effective are these books for teaching oneself?
I think these are okay. They teach individual notes but mostly have chords. I first started off with these when I started the piano. Focusing on chords isn’t bad, but you need to learn individual notes too as most music has this. Try using a metronome as this can help. Since you are teaching yourself, try buying a book with a CD to hear what the piece should sound like. Good Luck.
