Why does this Egyptian boy confuse me?

I just came back from Spring break in Egypt. Loved it. When I was in Alex ( I love how they shorten this), I really connected with one of the guys that was working with the group I was traveling with. I am a bit shy but I enjoyed talking with him. Still, I didn’t take any of his flirty comments seriously because a) I think he was just being nice b) because I am a westerner, there is less of a stigma with being more forward with me than with a native girl & c) I didn’t want to be an « easy » target. Anyways, we have been exchanging emails. In some, he is very over the top calling me baby and sweetie, and others he calls himself my brother. I am not sure whether I should take this seriously or just play along. Normally, I just ignore his overly cheesy comments and respond in a friendly but neutral tone. Can Egyptian boys really handle being just friends with a foreign girl? Basically, he is confusing me and I’m not sure how to respond.
