Extreme back pain from playing the Piano?
I started to play the piano three years ago, but every time I practiced I would get back pain 15 minutes in, and after a couple of hours my back would give out. Basically the days I practiced I would become immobile for the rest of it. If I put any weight on afterward, it would just give out.
I did go see a « very good » Chiropractor who saw how I sat, poked and probed, as well as put some machines to my back, to no avail. So I quit, since the pain wasn’t worth it.
The other day I bought a standard keyboard piano though, and the back-pains came back immediately. It doesn’t make any sense it doesn’t matter if I sit on a stool, chair, couch, or lazy-boy the pain always comes.
The pain is in my upper mid back, at the bottom of the shoulder blades right on and around my spine.
I automatically sit properly, back straight leaning slightly forward, curved fingers, etc..
I would like to keep playing the piano but I can’t handle the pain.
That’s pretty tough. I think that it might be the motion of your arms. If you’re overweight, that could be the problem too. It can cause problems to your back.
