Do you still listen to your old classical LPs?
I went through my old LP collection today, first time in years, desperately searching for the Brandenburg Concertos – found two sets! I wanted to listen to that harpsichord cadenza (my CD only has a shortened version of the cadenza!). And it was a real treat playing an LP again, sitting comfortably in my sofa, as I did, with the gatefold sleeve (remember them?) right in front of me. A perfect hour. So do you ever listen to your old classical LPs?
Mr Jones, the cadenza I wanted to revisit was the one from the first movement of the fifth concerto. The CD-version is two minutes shorter than Bach’s original cadenza. A little drastic, I feel:-)
If you’re talking about the second movement of the third Brandenburg Concerto, Bach was quite terse in his notation penning in only two chords in one measure with the implication that the performers would improvise on the Phrygian half cadence.
I’m half-way to where Brian is. I want to get a USB turntable to transfer my LPs to MP3 files and have them available.
… Just haven’t gotten « a round tuit » yet.
