What is used to cover a baby grand piano to protect it from dust?
Lace cloth? A delicate throw? A large piano shawl? Is there a name for such a thing?
I dislike piano covers except for institutional situations. Then it is to minimize impact damage and scratches, not to keep dust off.
My mother used to have either a Spanish lace shawl or a small hand knotted Persian rug on the piano. I would always remove them to open the lid to the short stick.
… I think she’s got just a full-size sheet on it now to keep the afternoon sun off the wood.
I think it’s far easier to use a dust rag once a week to keep the dust off of it. Also, cotton covers produce and lock in quite a bit of their own dust that tends to get into the instrument. The hardest thing to clean on a grand is the soundboard. It an be done, but it requires a soundboard steel and a cloth that will not unwrap from the steel. Dust on the soundboard isn’t really an issue other than one of aesthetics
