How come my music books won’t stay flat?
I recently purchased Beethoven and Haydn complete piano sonata books. However, the books won’t stay flat, because they are very thick! I am getting frustrated; it’s giving me a headache! Any help?
This has something to do with classical music. So do not tell me this is not relevant.

I bought a large-screen scanner/printer – a Brother 6490 – for really cheap. This will accept the large pages of a big book. I copy all my husband’s piano music, shrink it to 93 percent ( you do not even notice . . .) so it will fit on standard paper, and he is good to go. We tape together the pages – nothing worse than have pages go flying! Since he continues to work at the postgraduate level with a top coach in NYC, he does not need to take all his heavy books, either – just those copies. Nothing illegal about this – we OWN THE MUSIC, and have made these copies for study purposes.
Although you might have some opinions about the actual editions used, you can also get a lot of piano music on CD-ROM, and print what you wish. This is quite inexpensive, but again – the scanned pages of the originals are not always great quality, and the editions are public domain, sometimes of questionable scholarship.
And – the old-school way – we have these metal brackets, about four inches long, that look like lady’s hair combs, but with four big teeth. They are designed to keep the book open – altho the pages still curve. Or you can use those « bank clip » spring-loaded paper fasteners, or clothespins. And there is always the possibility of asking someone to turn pages for you – which actually, is how my husband and I met . . . . seriously . . .
