Clarinet Trill Fingering Help!?
I need to trill between high Ab(1 ledger line above the staff) and high C (2 ledger lines above the staff). I need an easy fingering that I can trill fast for 2 beats. Its from the song THE INCREDIBLES – PART 3 published by Hal Leonard Co. You can find the music on their website. Its in the 70th measure.
Well, unfortunatly there isn’t a good way to do this tremolo.
Any kind of trill with the Ab key is a pain, and just takes a lot of time and practice to make it sound right. Try doing it with a metronome… Start slow, and make sure it is even, and add a couple of ticks every couple minutes until you have your fingers up to speed. Also, don’t be afraid to use your knees to hold the bell of your clarinet for stability while doing this tremolo.
There is one option, but it may not be any better…
an alternate way to play « Ab » is thumb and register key, fingers 1 and 2 on the left hand, and fingers 1 and 2 on the right hand. This « Ab » is very weak and airy and takes a LOT of practice to play it with any kind of resonant quality. You could try this (taking out the pinky takes out some of the awkwardness), but then you have the issue of making sure that BOTH hands are timed right, otherwise you SOUND as though you are playing « A natural », or nothing at all. You also run a bigger risk of squeaking.
