How do you know if a Piano is played well?
What is it that people find fascinating about some songs played on the piano, and not others? How do people associate the sound of a piano with other instruments, and than make opinions based on what they hear? And does anybody else find it fascinating that everyone has their own opinion of the ideal instrument?
Anyway, here is a sample… do you like it? Why do you like it? How does your opinion of a piano influence your decision? (THIS QUESTION IS STRICTLY FOR A PERSONAL SURVEY AND CANNOT BE USED OTHERWISE):
You know any instrument (including voice) is played well when all you are following is the music, with no thoughts of who is playing, singing, or how they do it.
That is every performer’s ultimate challenge: make the audience so engaged in what you are doing they forget that you, or the instrument, are there at all.
I don’t at all care for or about the piece played. It is very musically insubstantial (thin) and big on an attempted sort of cheap and commercial ‘sentimentality’ usually associated with American Movie Scores, even less surprising when the score is from a director whose hallmark style / schtick is over-the-top sentimentality.
The playing is halting, with an uneven touch and a general lack of assuredness or ‘authority.’ That it is a simple arrangement which deprives us of any thicker, fuller harmonies does not help.
It is obvious by just hearing that it is played on a mid-range quality digital piano, which sounds like a bad toy and not nearly even like a good digital piano.
