how much does a lost library book cost you?
I lost my library book on vaccation.it was in the bag that got stolen of some of my stuff ppl use to layout by the pool.
it was like between $10-$15 so would I just have to pay the price of the book or some ridiculously high policy fine of like $80.
By the way I feel kinda akward because this cute guy that works there, (not a nerd at all lol) we went on a date, and we haven’t really been talking anymore lately, and then I come in with a lost library how should I advoid of feel less like an idiot tommorrow too?

you have nothing to feel like an idiot about – your library book was stolen. However – okay and you know better than I do – cute guy who works at the library… did the date end bad, or did he not call, or did you not call, or… guys are very weird, he may still be thinking about you even if he didn’t call. My point is you may WANT to give him the chance to process your lost library book for you. It could give you the opportunity to have him do something really awesome for you – namely, give you whatever break he possibly can in the library system – and also give both of you guys an opportunity to talk again over something neutral and hopefully get over the embarrasment of « we went on a date and kinda don’t know how to talk to each other now. »
about your book – while it won’t be $80, lost library books can be expensive. It does vary by the library network itself, and if the book was paperback or hardback it will be a different price (hardback more expensive) and it also makes a difference if it’s classified as an adult book or a juvenile book (adult more expensive.) Usually it will be about $40 for a lost adult hardback and less for the other stuff ($24.95 for the book + $15 processing fee.) the processing fee at different libraries I’ve known ranges from about $8 to $15, and is non refundable. Refundable matters, because if by some miracle you DO get the book back, you can get back the money you had to pay, minus the processing fee. (you never know – the theif could wind up returning it for you out of guilt!)
Your cute guy might be able to do something for you depending on library policy. In the library system where I used to work, we had something called « claim return » where if the book was lost in the library system but you thought you’d returned it, they would waive the fine (up to 3 times.) Or sometimes librarians can override a fine (like say skip the processing fee and just charge you for the book.) or he might not be able to do anything, so don’t blame him (or anyone else) if he can’t.
The other advantage of having him deal with you is that if he’s a jerk to you, you know where you stand.
as someone who used to work at a library and had combinations of awkward/cute moments when the guy I liked/kinda dated would come in, I say you might try to gather up the courage to take your chances with him helping you out.
